- Sorry it took so long for me to get back to you. I'll see what I can do. African American-only secondary schools that no longer exist are certainly notable, but it is hard to find sources for them. Drmies, you seem to be good at writing about things like this. Meanwhile, I plan on checking all of your recently rejected drafts to see if I can save them. Scorpions1325 (talk) 22:59, 11 May 2024 (UTC)
- Scorpions1325, I think the topic is probably notable but the draft needs improvement, esp. in terms of sourcing. I'm sure there's sourcing available. Drmies (talk) 00:41, 12 May 2024 (UTC)
- Drmie, unfortunately Newspapers.com and Archive.org were useless for both drafts I tried saving. Scorpions1325 (talk) 01:49, 16 May 2024 (UTC)

The fact was ... that actress Edna May Sperl's fiancé was arrested on the day of her wedding by a federal marshal because her fiancé's father opposed the marriage? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Edna May Sperl. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Edna May Sperl), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Jamiebuba (talk) 21:00, 16 May 2024 (UTC)George Kunkel[edit]
I finished off your draft and moved it to George Kunkel (theatre manager) and created a separate article on the silent film actor George Kunkel (actor). They were not the same person. The Kunkel brothers Charles and Jacob were unrelated. They were born in Germany and educated as pianists and composers in that country before immigrating to the United States where they settled in Saint Louis. They worked for Steinway & Sons as well as operating their own music publishing company in Saint Louis. Kunkel's Musical Review is a music magazine that their music publishing company in Saint Louis published.
"That Nasty Little Copper Colored Coon" (1896) and "Gina" were possibly not written by either of the George Kunkel men above. The theatre manager died in 1895 and had not been active in song writing for some time. (his music was written in the 1850s and 1860s while he was writing stuff for his minstrel company) It's possible that a relative may have dug up an old unpublished tune, but I suspect that this is a new writer based out of California given where those tunes were published and the updated music style. The elder song writer would not have been familiar with ragtime in all likelihood. It's possible the film actor could be the author given he was in California during this time, but I can find no evidence that the silent film star was involved in music. It's also possible that the son of the theatre manager, also named George Kunkle, could have followed in his dad's footsteps and written those tunes. Regardless, the author is not clear, so I removed them. 4meter4 (talk) 06:08, 17 May 2024 (UTC)
- Great! Thanks User:4meter4. The intersection with John Wilkes Booth, John T. Ford whose theater Abraham Lincoln's assassination took place, Uncle Tom's Cabin, and blackface minstrelsy is fascinating. I jotted a couple notes (questions) I hd on the talkpage. I also started draft for Draft:Eph Horn and Draft:Jim Sanford. FloridaArmy (talk) 13:13, 17 May 2024 (UTC)
- You are welcome. I came across George Kunkel, Sr. after writing this massive project: Richmond Theatre (Richmond, Virginia). I have now expanded our coverage of the Kunkel family by creating an article on Marie Kunkel Zimmerman (daughter of George, Sr. and sister of George, Jr.) and one on Marie's husband, Edward M. Zimmerman.4meter4 (talk) 17:06, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
- Which led to Draft:Henry Gordon Thunder which turns out to be a father and son (grandfather alos a musician?). So much left to do User:4meter4. The music of the era adds color to the events and people. Henry G. Gordon Sr. writing a civil war song for volunteers from Philly for example. His son was recorded on organ on various Victor records.
