Plot[edit]

Rajnesh Mathur, a wealthy businessman has two daughters. Roma, the elder one is very competitive and has always been spoiled. Beautiful and shy, Reema is quite reserved and usually lets Roma take the spotlight. They both grow up to be entirely different. Reema (Juhi Chawla) meets Ravi Saxena (Jackie Shroff) at a bookstore and immediently falls in love with him even though she has admired him through his books. Later on, Ravi decides to buys some paintings but all his favourite paintings have been sold to Roma (Amrita Singh) and whilst she admires a painting he buys it. She then lets him buy it but he returns the painting and later Roma buys the painting. The owner of the painting shop gives Ravi her personal card. He then stares at it for a while and decides to call the number but he gets too shy. So, Ravi's brother calls and informs Ravi that Roma is at an auction shop. Whilst Roma is bidding for a mirror and sink, toilet and bathtub, she loses to Ravi. The next day, Ravi sends all of the things she was bidding for, at her house and leaves his number on the mirror. She asks to meet him at a cafè where Roma asks why Ravi is behind Roma all the time. Ravi confesses his love to her and gives her a letter and some flowers. When they decide to meet at a cafè again, a photographer, Sunil Bhatnagar, approaches Roma and asks if he can take some photos of her, for the cover of a magazine. She agrees and after they take the photos, Ravi proposes to her and asks her to marry him but she asks him to take her family's permission first. Rajnesh gets Reema ready, thinking Ravi is going to ask Reema's hand in marriage. He sends Reema to the kitchen and she quietly listens to the conversation where Ravi tells Rajnesh that he wants to marry Roma and he agrees. Rajnesh goes to the kitchen and hugs Reema and apologizes to her. Roma comes and Ravi and Roma are engaged. Their wedding is fixed.

Sunil and Roma go to Ravi's office after the magazine goes successful and he shows Ravi the magazine. Roma asks Ravi if she can continue modelling but he doesn't want her to continue it. Roma then declines modelling and Roma and Ravi decide to go to the theatres. However, Roma, behind Ravi's back, continues her photoshoots and modelling as Ravi is patiently waiting at the theatres for her. When Roma arrives, she lies and tells him that her friend got into an accident. However, some men recognize Roma as she is now known as the glamour girl and they start harassing Roma which infuriates Ravi. They end up into a fight. They later go away and Ravi explained to her that the reason why he didn't want her to do modelling was because of situations like these. Roma apologizes and promises him to go to the theatres with him the next day. On the day she was meant to go to the theatres with him, she gets a call from the modelling agency and she is offered to do more shots and she agrees and tells Ravi that she has a headache.

The day before the wedding, Roma gets offered a film by Sunil and she tells him that she gets married the day they shoot. This infuriates Sunil and he tells Roma that no one has interest in married women so she either gets married or does the film. Reema finds a letter from Roma which explains that she wants to do a film and that she wants Ravi to forgive her and that they will get married when she returns. To protect the honours of the Mathurs, Ravi asks Rajnesh his permission for him to marry Reema which she denies to. She then later agrees to marrying him. On their wedding night, Reema tells Ravi that she doesn't think that the whole situation is right and that she only wants to stay as a friend to him. Ravi says that the day Reema brings her hand in front of him is the day she accept me him as her husband. She then agrees to this and he later falls in love with Reema once she lets her hair out. Ravi's brother explains to Reema that she needs to look more like a newly-wed bride and she agrees to this. They both fall in love with each other.

However things turn after Reema and Ravi come from a day out and find Roma, calling Reema a traitor sister and Ravi an unfaithful lover. Ravi later argues with Roma saying that Reema is his wife now and that he wants her to get out of his house whilst Roma warns Reema and Ravi that she won't let them stay happy. When they both are restless due to the encounter with Roma, they receive a phone from Roma's mother to inform them both that she tried committing suicide. Reema and Ravi both go to the hospital and they find out Rajnesh kicked Roma out of his house. Reema lets Roma to live in her house. Later on, Roma tells Reema that on the 15th day of the film shooting, she got replaced with a well known actress. Roma asks Reema why her and Ravi aren't sleeping on the same bed and she tells Roma the condition they made on their wedding night. This makes Roma extremely happy and she tries getting Ravi back. Roma goes to Ravi's office after he insults Roma she tells him that she loves him. Ravi reminds her that he is her younger sister's husband now and that he has no place in his heart for her. This infuriates Roma and she slits her wrists infront of Ravi and he rushes her to the hospital.

Reema is left alone constantly after Ravi is constantly going to Roma's room which makes her suspicious. Ravi is then assigned to go on a business trip to Delhi and he phones Reema but Roma picks it up. He informs Roma to inform Reema that he will be back at 10:30 but she doesn't tell Reema. Instead, she goes to take a bath at his room and when Ravi enters to change she comes out and this makes Reema angry. Roma explains to Reema that her shower wasn't working so Reema goes to Roma's room to check the shower and it works. After, Reema sobs and begs to Roma to let her keep Ravi. A day after, Reema wishes Ravi a happy birthday and Roma comes and wishes him and her idea is to throw a party whilst Reema's idea is for her and Ravi to go outside alone. However, whilst they try to go out, Roma throws a party for Ravi and dances with Ravi (Aaina Hai Mera Chehra) and Reema, who is in complete anger, packs Roma's suitcase and tells her to leave her house. Roma yells at Reema and asks her to ask Ravi what Roma means to him while Ravi is in complete silence. Reema then decides to leave the house but is stopped by Ravi and he says that him and Roma are going to leave.

When they leave, Reema goes to her maternal home to stay whilst Ravi and Roma are driving. Ravi starts driving extremely fast which scares Roma and as they are about to go off a cliff, Roma bites Ravi and jumps out of the car and he stops the car at the edge of the cliff. He takes her to the honeymoon cottage and confronts Roma that her suicide attempts were fake and that the doctor told him everything. Roma angrily tells Ravi to go to Reema who is less arrogant, less selfish and less beautiful than her. Ravi smashes all the mirrors and says that beauty is not seen on mirrors and is only seen inside. He says that he loves Reema now and only her. This infuriates Roma and she grabs a shattered piece of a mirror and goes to Reema and breaks down to her, complaining that Ravi only loves Reema and not her. Reema hugs Roma. Rajnesh accepts Roma back into his house. Roma gets Reema married with Ravi again.
