Summary

Description
English: Discovery images of Jupiter's irregular moon S/2017 J 5 (the gray fuzzy dot moving right from center) from the 4.0-m Victor M. Blanco Telescope's Dark Energy Camera (DECam) at Cerro Tololo Observatory. This animation consists of two images taken on 23 March 2017 06:02-06:34 UTC, both in the VR filter. The first frame is a 220-second exposure while the second frame is a 200-second exposure. North is up and East is left. Bright white pixels and streaks that sporadically flicker between images are artifacts caused by cosmic rays and camera defects. These images was taken by observer S. Sheppard and T. Abbott as part of the program "Extreme Trans-Neptunian Objects: Towards a Super-Earth in the" (proposal ID 2017A-0367). Metadata for the second frame image can be found at NOIRLab's Astro Data Archive page: https://astroarchive.noirlab.edu/api/header/be312c4f7a3bc1f8b8cca9fb24eefb72/
