Summary

Description
English: Colter's Hell is an area of thermal features on the Shoshone River just west of Cody, Wyoming. Today the only thermal activity is steam vents, but in the winter of 1807 when John Colter saw it, it had active geysers. Colter's account of the place was the earliest account by a white man of a place in Wyoming. In 1973 the site was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. At the top of the photo is the west end of Cody, with the grandstand at Stampede Park prominent.
