Escudo de Cangas de acuerdo con las normas heráldicas, a las que no se atiene el actual escudo (no oficial) en uso todavía por la Corporación municipal.

Blasón: En campo de azur trae un bastón de peregrino de oro en banda, pasado en sotuer bajo una cruz de Santiago de gules en barra, cantonados por un sol radiante figurado de oro en jefe, sendas veneras de plata a los flancos y un sepulcro del apóstol Santiago de plata, en forma de arqueta, sobre nubes de lo mismo en punta, superado por un cometa de oro. Al timbre: lambrequines de oro, azur y plata y corona real cerrada.
