English: Gerard de Lairesse, "Triomf der Vrede" (Triumph of Peace), three ceiling painting (1671/72); parts left to right: Unity, Freedom, Safety. De Lairesse painted that three ceiling paintings for Amsterdam burgomaster Andries de Graeff. TheThe paintings had a clear message: the ‘Ware Vrijheid’ of the Republic was only protected by the republican regents of Amsterdam. The paintings by, named Triomf der Vrede, glorify the De Graeff family’s role as the protector of the Republican state, defender of ‘True Freedom’. It is also to be understood as a statement of opposition and against the return to the Oranian stadtholdership.[
