Description
English: King George V bookplate by George Eve. Ex Bibliotheca Regia in Castel de Windesor G R V (King George V).

Signed G W E(ve) 1911

Described in Brian North Lee's "Royal British Bookplates" as "Rare" (page 113 see plate 91).

Armorial: Within the ribbon of the Garter, with the middle of the collar and George below, the Royal arms with the Royal crowns, crest and supporters, motto below, in a shaded rectangle with ornamental border. It was etched for folio books.

The modern character of this bookplate was the first of it's type and marked a change.

All of the Royal library bookplates of King George V are notably rare on account of His Majesty's early decision that requests for copies would be refused due to the expected number of requests. Brian North Lee quotes a letter from the Royal Librarian stating that His Majesty "never, except in very special circumstances, gives away a copy of the Royal bookplates".

In excellent condition and framed in matt black.
