Summary

Description

This is a south-bound Norfolk Southern Railway maintenance-of-way (MOW) train near Inaha, Georgia, USA, seen on 19 December 2013. The train is powered by Norfolk Southern # 9204 and Norfolk Southern # 9253.

9204 is a General Electric CW40-9 with a standard black and white Norfolk Southern paint scheme - it was built in April 1998.

9253 is also a CW40-9. It has a Norfolk Southern Operation Lifesaver 25th anniversary paint scheme.

This particular MOW train was carrying welded rails on roller cars.

The scrappy outcrop at the bottom of the photo is a ditch cut with an exposure of siliciclastic sediments. This is the Citronelle Formation, a Pliocene-aged unit of nonindurated to poorly indurated, dominantly deltaic, siliciclastic sedimentary rocks. It is widely distributed in the Gulf of Mexico coastal plain areas of Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas.
