Summary

Description
English: Part of Elysium Planitia on Mars. Centered at 5.9°N, 150.7°E. Size of the image is 24×31 km, north is up. Photo by Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter's Context Camera (CTX), contrast is increased. Sun elevation is 36.6°; spacecraft altitude is 270.99 km. Plate-like terrain, interpreted as ice which moved on a sea of water (Murray et al., 2005) or pieces of crust on cooling lava sea (Ryan, Christensen, 2012). The plates moved to the left, and obstacles (crater rims) turned them into piles of pieces (Murray et al., 2005).
