Summary

Description
English: This is a JPEG format floor plan and architectural drawing of a historic Indian temple or monument. An alternate SVG format (scalable vector graphics) version of this file – for web graphics, design studies, print, dynamic and interactive applications – has also been uploaded to wikimedia commons.

The drawing:

  • This is the floor plan of the Somesvara temple in Haranhalli (also referred to as Harnahalli, Haruvanahalli or Hiriya Somanathapura).
  • This plan is very similar to the other historic temple in Haranhalli dedicated to Vishnu, about 300 meters west of the Somesvara temple, and which called the Lakshminarasimha temple. Both temples were completed in 1234 CE by three brothers – Peddanna Heggade, Sovanna and Kesanna.
  • This floor plan illustrates one of the many three entrance architectures discussed in the vastu sastra chapters on temples. This plan is found elsewhere in India, including but not limiting to several temples in Telangana.
  • The temple's architectural plan follows the square and circle principle found in historic Sanskrit texts.
  • GPS location of the monument:
13° 14′ 50.8″ N, 76° 13′ 34.5″ E Kartographer map based on OpenStreetMap.View this and other nearby images on: OpenStreetMapinfo
  • The relative scale and relative dimensions in this architectural drawing are close to the actual but neither exact nor complete. The plan illustrates the design and layout, but some intricate details or parts of the temple may not be shown. In cases where exact measurements were not feasible, the drawing uses best approximations and rounds the best measurements feasible.
