Company history

[edit]

Jedox was founded in 2002 by Kristian Raue in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany, with the aim of simplifying planning, analysis, and reporting processes for businesses.[6] In 2008, Jedox transitioned into a stock corporation and secured its first funding round, raising approximately $5.44 million in a Series A round led by eCAPITAL.[7]

In 2014, Jedox acquired Reboard, a German software company specializing in mobile analytics and reporting.[8] The following year, in July 2015, Jedox expanded its presence in the Asia-Pacific region by acquiring Naked Data, an Australian software company, leading to new offices in Singapore, Sydney, and Melbourne.[9]

In 2017, Deloitte recognized Jedox with the "Technology Fast 50" Star award, highlighting the company’s rapid growth in the technology sector.[10] The following year, Florian Winterstein was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Jedox, bringing new leadership to the company.[11]

The company continued to attract investment to support its growth. In April 2018, Jedox raised $24.6 million in a Series B funding round with participation from eCAPITAL and IRIS.[12] Subsequently, in January 2021, Jedox secured over $100 million in a Series C round led by Insight Partners, with participation from existing investors IRIS, eCAPITAL, and Wecken & Cie.[13]

Jedox was named a Leader in the 2023 and 2024 Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Financial Planning Software and recognized in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Financial Consolidation and Close.[14] Additionally, the company was ranked #1 for Flexibility Value in the Global Peer Group within the 2024 BARC Planning Survey.[15] Also in 2024, the company launched JedoxAI, an artificial intelligence-powered feature aimed at enhancing business planning and analytics through natural language interaction.

Products

[edit]

Platform

[edit]

Jedox was specifically developed for tasks in planning, analysis, reporting, and data consolidation, and can be applied across industries and departments. The core principle of the software is that Jedox extracts the necessary operational data from source systems, transforms it into analysis-ready formats, and makes it available to different user groups through customized evaluations or access options via various user-friendly frontends.

What sets the software apart is its ability to cover not only traditional, backward-looking business intelligence applications—such as OLAP analyses and reporting—but also to support performance management solutions. These include what-if analyses, demand planning, simulations, budgeting, financial planning, and balanced scorecards. In addition, the integration of Jedox AIssisted™ Planning enables highly accurate forecasts based on historical data.

In-Memory Database:

[edit]

The Jedox In-Memory Database is an in-memory, multidimensional real-time OLAP database (MOLAP) designed to manage business or statistical data sets (multidimensional database). In addition to multidimensional querying, data can also be written back and consolidated in real time. The server stores all data in memory to ensure fast data access.

Integrator:

[edit]

Jedox ETL (extract, transform, load) is a client-server-based application for automated data import. It extracts, transforms, and loads data from heterogeneous sources into the Jedox OLAP Server. The ETL component supports all common relational database systems—such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, and PostgreSQL—by connecting through JDBC interfaces. Users can also extract data from flat files, XML files, web services, and LDAP systems. A SOAP-based web service interface allows Jedox ETL to be integrated into other software applications.

In addition to importing data into Jedox, the ETL module also supports drill-through from the OLAP database down to transactional data in the source systems.

Connectors:

[edit]

Jedox is an open platform that offers maximum flexibility through a wide range of connectors, enabling seamless integration with various ERP, CRM, and Business Analytics systems. In the database category, Jedox can connect to third-party systems such as:

  • Microsoft SQL Server
  • Oracle Database
  • IBM DB2
  • SAP HANA
  • MySQL
  • And many other relevant databases via JDBC drivers

Connectors for ERP and CRM systems include, for example:

  • SAP ERP
  • Salesforce
  • Microsoft Dynamics 365/NAV
  • Oracle Netsuite
  • Infor
  • And many others

BI and analytics platforms such as Microsoft Power BI, Qlik Sense, QlikView, Tableau, and many more can also be quickly and easily integrated into the Jedox solution. Additionally, Jedox supports file-based connections and integrations with web services and web protocols, including:

  • Microsoft Excel
  • Microsoft Access
  • CSV
  • JSON
  • XML
  • Directories
  • REST-based and SOAP web services
  • LDAP
  • FTP
  • HTTP/HTTPS
  • WebDAV
  • Google Token
  • OAuth Token
  • And many more...

Web Frontend/Web Client:

[edit]

The Jedox Web Client allows users to access centrally stored data in the OLAP database directly from a web browser. Locally created reports are transformed into server-based web applications, which can be accessed and modified via the browser. Data can be visualized using the Canvas feature in responsive dashboards, as planning reports, business graphics, or in tables with Dynarange functionality. Even in web mode, analysis results and modifications to existing reports can be consistently written back to the database.

Analysis and calculation models created in Excel are made available to multiple users via the web browser, without requiring Microsoft Excel to be installed. Users can therefore access the OLAP database via a web browser, including from mobile devices.

Office Integration:

[edit]

Jedox offers Microsoft Office add-ins. These add-ins (for Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) enable seamless communication between the Jedox OLAP database and the respective Office frontends. Multiple Office workstations can be connected online, all accessing a centralized data source (single source of truth). Data entered in Microsoft Office applications is written back into the OLAP cube structure and aggregated via the add-in. By leveraging familiar Office interfaces—especially the Excel environment—business users without IT expertise can independently use Jedox for planning, analysis, and reporting.

Solutions

[edit]

In addition to the platform, Jedox also offers dedicated solutions. Jedox solutions are preconfigured templates designed to optimize both strategic and operational planning across a wide range of business applications and can be tailored to meet individual customer requirements. Based on best practices and aligned with current regulatory standards, Jedox solutions enable rapid integration of existing data within Jedox and automate key business processes.

Customizable dashboards provide immediate visibility into the most important key performance indicators (KPIs), supporting data-driven and well-informed decision-making. Jedox offers the following solutions:

Integrated financial planning (IFP):

[edit]

The IFP solution includes prebuilt and easily customizable financial models for P&L, cost centers, cash flow, and balance sheet planning, as well as features for workflow management, currency conversion, and version control.

Financial consolidation (FinCon):

[edit]

The financial consolidation module (FinCon module) provides templates aligned with accounting standards such as IFRS and local GAAP. It supports the use of multiple currencies and enables the consolidation of several companies, including international entities, facilitating closing activities and financial reporting.

The Jedox ESG solution is designed following the legal requirements of the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) and the Voluntary Standard for SMEs (VSME), introduced under the Omnibus regulations.

The preconfigured templates include, among other features, an automatically generated DR/DP data model with tagging and location-/time-based disaggregation, E1-5 and E1-6 Scope 1/2/3 DR template dimensions, calculation logic for CO₂ equivalent conversions, and integration of emission factors for further calculations and KPIs.

Workforce planning (HR):

[edit]

The Jedox HR solution integrates Finance KPIs with HR metrics. HR cost center bookings are automated and directly incorporated into the P&L and balance sheet.

The HR dashboard provides insights into expenses by cost center, month, and full-time equivalents (FTEs), as well as workforce development. KPIs such as profit, revenue, margin, and expenses can be flexibly adjusted to reflect planning by individual, team, business unit, cost center, or role. Additionally, key HR metrics such as FTEs, headcount, salaries, insurance, and benefits are included in the HR Solution.

Sales planning:

[edit]

The Jedox Sales solution supports Sales teams in planning and managing sales territories, revenue, quotas, and compensation models. With AI-powered Jedox AIssisted™ Planning, users can generate automated forecasts to continuously monitor sales performance and goal achievement, while identifying where strategic adjustments may be needed.

Sales & operations planning (S&OP):

[edit]

The S&OP solution enables companies to align demand and sales planning through timely sales forecasts, CRM integration, and sales analytics. Demand data can be easily linked with supply, inventory, and other relevant datasets. The bill of materials (BOM) calculation feature allows companies to display complex product breakdowns clearly and holistically.

Technology

[edit]

Jedox is cloud-based and delivered by default via the Microsoft Azure Cloud Computing Platform. The infrastructure is built on Kubernetes. If desired, Jedox can also be deployed in a private or public cloud environment directly at the customer’s location. This includes using the customer’s own Microsoft Azure server. With system-specific adjustments, Jedox can also run on alternative server environments such as Amazon AWS, Google Cloud, or other hosting providers. Jedox Kubernetes containers can additionally be deployed on the customer’s own hardware in an on-premises variant. This self-hosted and self-managed option requires a high level of infrastructure capabilities and technical expertise.

In the area of artificial intelligence (AI), Jedox employs multiple approaches. As early as 1997, Jedox introduced its AIssisted™ Planning solution. This solution uses wizards powered by machine learning (ML) to read, cleanse, interpret, and cluster input data, and to generate forecasts and planning predictions based on historical data. Following the rise of generative AI, Jedox has harnessed its potential by integrating it into the platform. Generative AI now supports users in report creation, natural language data analysis, and delivers strategic recommendations.

Leading analyst firms such as BARC and Gartner® have recognized Jedox as a leader in the field of AI, among other categories. Quote from Gartner®, Magic Quadrant™ for Financial Planning Software 2024:

“A key innovation is its AI-powered automated report generation from natural language input. These capabilities are beneficial for clients seeking to accelerate insights and empower FP&A professionals to focus on strategic tasks.”

Jedox’s vision for the future is to become a true digital business partner—a platform powered by AI that not only supports customers, but also advises, acts, and adapts. The company aims to go beyond being just a support tool, striving instead to deliver digital intelligence that becomes an integrated part of the team, taking enterprise planning and performance management to the next level.

Field of use and circulation
