Biography[edit]

Maisa Abd Elhadi was born in Nazareth on 15 November 1985 to Palestinian Muslim parents.

Maisa was reportedly shot and injured in the leg by Israeli forces, while taking part in a peaceful demonstration in the city of Haifa, on 9 May 2021, protesting against forced expulsions of Palestinian families from their homes in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah.[3]

Controversy[edit]

During the 2023 Hamas attack on Israel, Maisa was detained by police in Nazareth for "expressions of praise for terror and hate speech" by sharing and laughing at images of hostages being taken by Hamas on social media, among other alleged crimes.[4][5] On October 29, she was charged with incitement to terrorism and expressing solidarity with a "terror organization", both according to the counter terrorism act (2016) [he].[6]
