McNally is an Irish surname originating in County Tyrone, Ulster. It is the Anglicized form of Mac Conallaidh 'son of Cú Allaidh', a Gaelic name of Cenél nEógain meaning the 'wild hound', i.e. 'wolf'.[1][2][3][4]
Prevalent in Ulster counties Antrim, Armagh and Monaghan, McNally has nothing to do with the Mayo name Mac an Fhailghigh.[5][6][7]
