Template talk:Christianity in China

reformat

[edit]

Hello,

I made some changes to hopefully improve the flow of topics and coordinate them with the Portal:Christianity in China - which already has a "topics" template. I removed the people groups because they didn't seem to relate to the subject on their own terms. Ideally, I would be in favor of a very similar breakdown as it appears on the portal - but this is a good beginning.Brian0324 (talk) 16:19, 14 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

color

[edit]

This is cosmetic - but the Wikiproject Christianity in China uses red. Red isn't a Christian color or a Taoist color - but a very Chinese color, I would argue. Who cares if 2 templates for Chinese religions use red?Brian0324 (talk) 13:44, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

With mostly Chinese, red is the most popular color or maybe the national spirit. And it must use for only the holiest, most important Chinese things so that is why red couldn't not use for Christianity, a Western minority religion in China. I will use red for a common template of religion in China. As you can see, Islam is use its holiest color: Islamic green. Buddhism in China is not use its original color of orange but pink, the color of lotus and balance (for many Buddhist sects in China). I think you know what I am talking about. Red is definitely not for Christianity when it stand side by side with other religions in China.Angelo De La Paz (talk) 14:31, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I could argue that red is symbolic of Christianity as well as China as per the Wordless Book, however, this isn't a critical issue. Just that the Wikiproject has an established color theme that this new template breaks away from.Brian0324 (talk) 13:41, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't care about the color theme of if only Christianty. But this template is using for a greater article of Religion in China and each religion must respect eath others as well as you should and I shouldn't biased for any particular. If you don't like this template for the article of Christianity in China so you could delete it in your owned article, there is no problem with me or anyone who non-Christian or non-religious, just like me.

== Chinese "Jesus" Image ==

Removed this image because the illustration is not needed & depicting deity in visual form is not a practice accepted by a majority of Christians in China, thus to remove potential controversy I have substituted the neutral gospel characters which are more universal. Template replacement

[edit]

There was already a Portal:Christianity in China/Topics as a part of the Christianity in China Portal and when this "Christianity and China" template was created it was really just redundant in many ways. So, if some of the more significant Christianity in China articles need to have a template/navbox full of links - they should just have the same set of links that the Portal offers. This is a bit of a unilateral move on my part - but then in keeping with Wikipedia's "be bold" rule I just switched this out. The template was created despite a lot of existing work done in the Portal topics navbox, anyway - so as long as everyone is OK with the longer standing Portal navbox we can just use it here, instead.Brian0324 (talk) 13:50, 14 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

CPCA

[edit]

Shouldn't there be a link to the Chinese Patriotic Catholic Association? --Error (talk) 21:46, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Comment copied from the soon to be deteted Template talk:Christianity and China which seemed relevant here--Salix (talk): 12:41, 10 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Foundations/History

[edit]

Hi Remsense, I have undone your revision because the part of history you add is irrelevant to the template. Rather, the original column you deleted is more relevant to the template itself. You edit can be counted as {{hoaxing vandalism}} and adding illegitimate content under the page of vandalism. --Calidachu (talk): 13:00, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate the approach. Could you please tell me what was specifically wrong with my ideas? Like I said, I haven't added any new links to the template with this edit. I thought the following:
  • that it might be a good idea to have a single 'history' section, that in turn has subsections for each mission/denomination
my interests are simply a matter of organization, i wonder what is the best way to hierarchically organize the content in this template since it is such a big, multifaceted topic.
also, please read WP:Vandalism as you cite it, as I think it is fair to say your characterization is directly countermanded by its opening paragraphs alone. Remsense (talk) 17:27, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the reply. Adding the first part as history suggests that those are major events that affected the historical development of Chinese Christianity. But as per your revision, those events added in the new history part had less significance to Chinese Christianity (comparing to the whole lot already shown in the event part). Furthermore, there is already a mission history column? I think most Chinese Christian historians will disagree those modern historical events determine the development of Chinese Christianity, which overlooks other events since the 7th century (e.g. Xi'an Stele). I appreciate your good faith, but it does not justify the reorganisation. --Calidachu (talk): 20:31, 17 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The Song family

[edit]

I am very surprised that the Song family (Charlie Soong, Soong Ching-ling, etc.) are not included in this template. I feel like they deserve a mention by their level of prominence. -- TheLonelyPather (talk) 16:02, 25 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
