Edit request[edit]

editprotected Hi. Please update this template's category from

to

Sardanaphalus (talk) 13:33, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Should Cat templates have a parameter, such as PAGENAME? There's a pipe and a space, so I thought I'd check. No objection to doing the change, though. UltraExactZZ Claims ~ Evidence 16:57, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Are you sure such narrow categorisation is necessary? The Category:Cat templates is currently empty... Happymelon 21:18, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, make that Category:Mammal species templates, but with the index "|Cat". I was guessing I or other folk would find cat-related templates to populate Cat templates someday. Sardanaphalus (talk) 21:50, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at a few of the templates in that latter category, it seems that they are more navboxes between individual species, geni, taxa, etc - not between species articles and more 'philosophical' topics such as "history of the cat". I'm not sure that this recategorisation is necessary. Happymelon 16:25, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request 2[edit]

Hey! Protected template. AWESOME.
So, why isn't American Shorthair in the breeds section of this template? It's a rather common breed; heck, the article itself states that it's the 8th most popular. I believe it should be added, and would like someone with the proper privileges to do so please. :) --kaoskastle (Talk) 00:26, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You should use the proper template to attract attention. Like here:

editprotected

Please change High–rise syndrome to High-rise syndrome; the en dash is wrong here, and I have moved and edited the article to reflect correct style.
(I also notice a double space before the link in question... A small, useless, inconsistent space... If you'd be so kind. :-D) Waltham, The Duke of 21:44, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

New Breed[edit]

I think that the American Keuda should be added to the breed list on the template. Even though it's only experimental, I'm pretty sure that's what the Munchkin is too. 71.72.129.4 (talk) 15:38, 8 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

editprotected Please add Anesthesia to health section. Can this be changed to semi-protect? It was only one vandal. I don't think this is much of a vandalism target.--Dodo bird (talk) 11:21, 12 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Add "Meow"[edit]

As there is "purr", so there should be "meow" under category "behaviour". eu.stefan (talk) 16:10, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

editprotected

Not done Meow is a disambiguation page, with the relevant linking already present on the template. Best, PeterSymonds (talk) 10:44, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

New Breed and Addition of Registry[edit]

I'm proposing the following addition of Cat Aficionado Association and Dragon Li be added in order to reflect a more updated template (*See following modified sections of template for reference).

|group6 = Registries |list6 = nowrap begin Cat Aficionado Association Cat Fanciers' Association Fédération Internationale Féline Governing Council of the Cat Fancy The International Cat Association nowrap end |group7 = Breeds |list7 = nowrap begin Abyssinian American Curl Balinese British Shorthair Bengal Birman Bombay Burmese California Spangled Chartreux Cornish Rex Devon Rex Don Sphynx Dragon Li Egyptian Mau Exotic Shorthair Himalayan Japanese Bobtail Javanese Korat Maine Coon Manx Munchkin Norwegian Forest Cat Ocicat Oriental Shorthair Persian Peterbald Ragdoll Ragamuffin Russian Blue Savannah Scottish Fold Siamese Siberian Singapura Somali Sphynx Tonkinese Turkish Angora Turkish Van nowrap end

Edit Request to Health[edit]

editprotected

Please add Feline hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (abbreviated as HCM) to the Health section. It's a fairly common genetic heart disease among Maine Coons, Ragdolls, and other domestic cats. If left untreated, it leads to an extremely painful process of blood clots breaking off of the heart and blocking the cat's hind legs' arteries, causing paralysis. It's estimated that 1/3 of Maine Coons have this disease. Information about HCM is vital knowledge for cat owners and researchers.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Wo0ter08 (talkcontribs)

Done, though I added it as a pipe to the section of the article dealing with the cat disorder, as opposed to using the redirect to the article mainly on the human disorder. I also alphabetized the entire template.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 14:37, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request (capitalization change)[edit]

editprotected

Under the "Health" group, change Feline Hepatic Lipidosis to Feline hepatic lipidosis to avoid the redirect. Thanks. --Lightsup55 ( T | C ) 17:16, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Good catch. Cheers.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 17:20, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Breed request[edit]

Please add the Snowshoe (cat) under the breeds category. It's been recognized by several cat registries as well, so it isn't a mix. Thanks! WhiteArcticWolf (talk) 18:44, 14 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Cat book[edit]

Added Cat book [1], per request [2]. Feel free to change it. Cheers, Cirt (talk) 10:46, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

editprotected

Please move the Cat Book link to bottom row (pipe as Book), together with Category and Portal.--Dodo bird (talk) 00:46, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

More additions to the template[edit]

Breeds to be added:

To be added to Human-cat interaction:

Thanks. Kpstewart (talk) 06:05, 25 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I also suggest adding the Cheetoh cat breed as well... WhiteArcticWolf (talk) 12:42, 25 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Please add the cat breed Selkirk Rex to the template; they've been around since the 1980s and are very popular in Europe.S. M. Sullivan (talk) 06:47, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Collapsible template[edit]

Any objections to replacing the template with a collapsible one like this? It would allow a more inclusive list of breeds (and diseases) without becoming too unwieldy. Whether the other top level topics should have its own sections can be discussed. --Dodo bird (talk) 03:44, 15 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't object to the reorganization, and only mildly (symbolically) object to the multiple-collapsing sections. (The [show/hide] links irritate me throughout Wikipedia!)
I do however strongly object to the removal of multiple subsections of multiple links. Could you add those to your sandboxed demonstration? -- Quiddity (talk) 22:08, 15 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Like this? It looks a little strange with everything collapsed and centered. But I think there are codes to make selected sections show as expanded, as a default setting or on a per article basis.
Would you please collapse the Domestic Cat template? I tried adding the code & find it's protected. V.B. (talk) 14:42, 9 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Cymric[edit]

Can someone add the Cymric (cat) to the template? User:Melon247/sig 12:35, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

To add: American Shorthair is still missing. Quanyails (talk) 17:25, 21 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Toyger moved from hybrid[edit]

Someone that breeds Toyger mentioned in the help desk that it was classified wrongly so I moved it. If I am wrong, feel free to move it back.--Canoe1967 (talk) 23:58, 21 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Health versus disease[edit]

I made an edit to the template yesterday, but wondered afterwards whether I'd been too bold. In case further discussion is required, here's a larger explanation of the changes than would fit in the edit summary:

 • Deaf white cat: page about congenital deafness, not coat color, so moved out of Coat genetics section (also updated to new page name of Congenital sensorineural deafness in cats)
 • Veterinary anesthesia: not cat-specific (and no other general "veterinary" articles are included in this template)
 • Cat-scratch disease: a disease which affects humans, but in which the causative bacteria is spread to humans by cats, so moved it to the Human–cat interaction section
 • New section for Diseases and disorders: If health is the state of being free of disease, then including a long list of diseases under health seems illogical, but (more importantly) made it difficult to find the true "health" items buried in the list. I used Diseases and disorders rather than just Diseases since diseases cause "discomfort and dysfuntion", and that does not apply to conditions with a lack of usual function which don't cause discomfort (e.g., deafness). Cats and the internet[edit]
