Template talk:Setup cluebot archiving

Is this working anymore?

[edit]

@Qwerfjkl: I added it to a talk page via {{subst:Setup cluebot archiving}} and nothing happened.

I may need to remove the link from here:

Timeshifter, which talk page? (Also, I didn't get your ping.) — Qwerfjkltalk 12:26, 15 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Qwerfjkl. It works. I was mistaken. I was trying to quickly set up Cluebot and didn't see anything on the talk page after saving the substitution. I guess I am used to talk pages that already have {{talk header}} on them. The archiving is then mentioned at its end. So I expected something to show up.
Maybe the doc can mention that for archiving info to show up on the talk page that {{talk header}} or {{archives}} is also needed. --Timeshifter (talk) 18:28, 15 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Timeshifter, by all means update the documentation. I wrote the template before talk header had such functionality. — Qwerfjkltalk 18:47, 15 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I added a note about it to the doc. --Timeshifter (talk) 18:50, 15 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Hidden notes explaining units

[edit]

An idea. Using my talk page for testing. I don't have archiving on my talk page (and don't want any), and I see this now in the wikitext after the substitution:

{{subst:Setup cluebot archiving}}
{{User:ClueBot III/ArchiveThis | age                 =2160 | archiveprefix       =User talk:Timeshifter/Archive | numberstart         =1 | maxarchsize         =75000 | header              ={{Archive}} | minkeepthreads      =5 | format              = %%i }}

I suggest for future ease of use by other editors of a talk page that some hidden notes be added so they can adjust the units without having to come to the doc page first to figure them out:

{{User:ClueBot III/ArchiveThis | age                 =2160 <!--hours--> | archiveprefix       =User talk:Timeshifter/Archive | numberstart         =1 | maxarchsize         =75000 <!--bytes--> | header              ={{Archive}} | minkeepthreads      =5 | format              = %%i <!--numbered archives--> }}

Timeshifter, again, feel free to. I doubt you'll find other editors opining here. — Qwerfjkltalk 18:48, 15 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Qwerfjkl. I added the hidden notes here:
User:ClueBot III/Documentation#Example: Changing from MiszaBot to ClueBot III
I don't know how to add the hidden notes to this setup template. --Timeshifter (talk) 18:58, 15 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Qwerfjkl. I figured it out, and added the hidden notes to the setup template. I tested it on my talk page (and then removed it since I don't want archives there). --Timeshifter (talk) 19:10, 15 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Timeshifter, have you tested it won't break the archives? For instance, removing the space before %%i broke them, so I'm not sure if this will have a similar effect. — Qwerfjkltalk 20:07, 15 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

We should know in a day or 2. I set up Cluebot with the hidden notes here on June 13, 2025:

That talk page has plenty of threads to archive. --Timeshifter (talk) 22:40, 15 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Timeshifter, might it be better to keep the template without the comment in the interim? — Qwerfjkltalk 10:01, 16 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Qwerfjkl. Good idea. I reverted my changes. --Timeshifter (talk) 11:32, 16 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Qwerfjkl: I waited 11 days after adding Cluebot to a talk page with the hidden notes. It never archived the page.
Whereas Cluebot operated 2 days after installation on another talk page without the hidden notes.
Maybe the Cluebot operator can adjust it so that it ignores hidden notes. --Timeshifter (talk) 10:37, 24 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Timeshifter, feel free to ask the bot operator. — Qwerfjkltalk 09:04, 26 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. See here:
