@Kwamikagami: No, I currently have no intention to request for history merge. Both Kayanic and Kayan–Murik are completely valid linguistic branches of Austronesian, but at different positions. Kayanic is a branch of the Malayo-Polynesian languages (or intermediately, Greater North Borneo languages), while Kayan–Murik is one of two branches of (/ below) the Kayanic branch, alongside Segai–Modang (it's a sister, not a daughter). Kayan–Murik languages are dispersed in the interiors of East Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, Sarawak, and West Kalimantan (4 subdivisions); while Segai–Modang is restricted to northern East Kalimantan. Also, the distinction between the two has been accepted by both Smith (2017) or any other scholar sources that discuss the branch. Glottolog version 5.2 also agree with this position, but the term "Kayan-Murik-Modang" is used instead of "Kayanic", since the latter term is used for all Kayan–Murik languages with the exception of Murik. In conclusion, both the articles I rewrite are not mere duplicates, and I even have plans to expand my own version of Kayan–Murik languages to include discussion about major sound changes within the languages. If you want any history merge between the two, I recommend you to request it by yourself.

i understand the difference, but we only had only one article duplicated on two pages. we don't need an article for every postulated cladistic node; it's often convenient to cover some under a higher node. if you want to split these two, i'll be glad for the expansion of content, but until then we need to avoid content forks. — kwami (talk) 03:05, 8 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
