Adoption
[edit]Hello! Would you be open to discussing possible adoption? I also have a (big) interest in tornadoes (especially after going through a tornado outbreak myself :P) and I think overall you are a cool person who could provide valuable mentorship. Thank you, FarmerUpbeat (talk) 00:12, 26 February 2025 (UTC)
- Sure!! It's almost tornado season, so perfect time to ask. Do you have any off-the-bat questions? :) EF5 00:13, 26 February 2025 (UTC)
- Firstly, what would the best way to communicate be? FarmerUpbeat (talk) 01:05, 26 February 2025 (UTC)
- I'd prefer on-wiki, if that's fine. It's nothing personal, it's just that Wikipedia is the website I have access the most to throughout the day (and I've had at least one questionable experience with talking off-wiki). :D — EF5 01:09, 26 February 2025 (UTC)

St. Louis yet again
[edit]There's another tornado in St. Louis. Radar indicated, so not a definitive disaster in the making, and it's looking like it's going to miss last month's affected areas, but that downdraft signature won't be appreciated. Still no federal response for the tornado. Joplin had theirs within 48 hours. Might work on expansion for the article if I can find the time. Departure– (talk) 20:00, 4 June 2025 (UTC)
- I'm seeing the tornado in the process of occluding just southeast of the radar site, but the thing is, it's coming with a potent RFD surge, which really strikes in me a fear that a lot of displaced folks and those living in heavily damaged (red-stickered) homes in northern STL might be in serious trouble in the next few minutes, if this surge (about 10 miles from city limits) maintains itself that long. Departure– (talk) 20:05, 4 June 2025 (UTC)
- I don't think it'll be to the May 16's caliber. Speaking of that, how does the Somerset article look? I'm currently working to get it longer than the outbreak page. EF5 20:10, 4 June 2025 (UTC)
- It's looking great on quality (though cn on that photo of Beshear "praising" the federal response). Good luck.
- Also, the St. Louis situation. A QLCS spinup tornadocyclone is about to more or less parallel the May 16 tornado's path to the north. This leaves all the red-stickered homes in the path of, if not the tornado itself, the RFD surge, and my intuition tells me that it won't take a direct hit to crumble a lot of them. Departure– (talk) 20:14, 4 June 2025 (UTC)
- Seems to have missed town. — EF5 21:36, 4 June 2025 (UTC)
- 109 refs, 39 images and 64,000 bytes of content? Yeah, no way in hell that's getting deleted anytime soon. It's also good to note that the Somerset article is now one of only two Wikipedia articles on individual tornadoes to have over 100 refs, the other being Greensburg tornado. I'm currently in contact with someone for a free video from their backyard in Somerset; I'll see around lunchtime tomorrow if they actually upload the video. — EF5 06:40, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
- @Departure–: Great news - we have a free video of the tornado that was taken by a witness! VRT has been contacted. — EF5 14:47, 5 June 2025 (UTC)
