Just to Clarify[edit]

Hey - I just saw your edit summary here - which I presume was aimed at me (since I added the template), and I wanted to quickly clarify: I wasn't doubting the validity of the claim; I was merely tagging a weasel wording ("Critics") -weasel words are usually avoided because of their generality. Your edit actually made the sentence better, but, seeing no reason to have the weasel word "Some" in it, I changed it to reflect exactly what was in the source: see here.--96.240.134.70 (talk) 18:00, 23 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No worries! That wasn't actually aimed at you; somebody else had removed Adam Clymer's name on the basis that he wasn't saying the show had a liberal bias in the cited article. I had a good read over the source before placing Clymer's name back in the article, because in it he does say that the show attacks Republicans more than Democrats, which in turn would imply "liberal bias" - I was just explaining my reasoning for that in the edit summary. :) I did notice you'd been weeding out some of the weasel words in the article, it's much appreciated. Cheers! -Shoemoney2night (talk) 00:09, 24 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh ok, sorry for the misunderstanding on my part, see you around! :) --96.240.134.70 (talk) 23:13, 28 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Colbertdailybugle.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Colbertdailybugle.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 06:16, 9 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Doug Anthony All Stars[edit]

Nice Work, (as David Lodge would say). I remember watching the ABC and hearing DAAS perform Throw Your Arms Around Me, and the hairs stood up on the back of my neck. Great sound. I've left comments on the GA nom talk page. Poke me re passing it, if I don't reappear on the scene when you've had a look. Cheers. Now I'm off to nick some of the cool user boxes i saw on your page... hamiltonstone (talk) 11:23, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for dropping by at my page. I was thinking about the court case issue. I had a bit of a look at The British law database, but it only goes back that far with some jurisdictions, and i don't know what court was involved. I tried a bit of a search and drew a blank, but wasn't too confident I was even in the right place... The On The Street article makes reference to the Old Bailey, but that could just be being used as a colloquialism for being 'in court'. BUT, the OTS article, which is dated 1989, does say the case is currently before the courts, so at least you can put a year in for that. Based on your description, I'm glad I haven't actually read this book :-) Unfortunately, The Times online archive, though it goes back to 1785, only goes forward to 1985 - and so misses the dates of the court cases. Cheers. hamiltonstone (talk) 09:46, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. Re the DAAS GA nom - It is just about there, but I realised a problem regarding the newspaper hoaxing. I've tried to explain it at the GAN talk. See what you can do - it's an annoying problem, but in terms of keeping WP rigorous and reliable, I think it has to be tackled. I did actually do a little searching for a solution myself, but we only have a small library where I am at the moment and it had nothing that would deal with this. Humourous[edit]

Hi Shoemoney2night. "Humourous" is regarded as a spelling error here on Wikipedia as there is a consensus (see the discussions linked from User:Spellmaster) that nowhere in the world is it a correct spelling. --John (talk) 17:06, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, no worries, will remember that in future. Sorry for the confusion! -Shoemoney2night (talk) 22:43, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Aussie comedians & festivals[edit]

Hi! Are you the same as Shoemoney? Where have I seen your name on Wikipedia recently? Anyhow, I've recently adopted some Aussie comedy projects on Wikipedia and they led me to Tim Minchin's page. I added an award that was missing from his page (I forget which one now! I'm getting confused) & then found out he's won another one (I had a feeling he must've won many by now): Greenroom awards, [1] (Maybe he deserves an award box at the bottom! I did one for Sam Simmons. Will do one, eventually, for TM if you don't have time. I like the idea of linking up all these comedians via the awards they've won, like a lineage. I created a stub - I'm still not clear on exactly what that means as opposed to article, except that it's obviously short - for the Barry Award for that reason.) Anyhow, I'm still learning how to do html/Wiki so please forgive any of my mistakes. p.s. Yay! Comedy matters! It's so important as a major cultural (and health) function-thing! --Tyranny Sue (talk) 11:55, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Shawn Spencer.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 20:25, 21 July 2009 (UTC). Replaceable fair use Image:Tim Minchin.png[edit]

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Tim Minchin.png. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. J Milburn (talk) 21:51, 23 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Hysminai, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.theoi.com/Daimon/Hysminai.html. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. (If you own the copyright to the previously published content and wish to donate it, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for the procedure.)

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. Copyright problem: Hysminai[edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, such as Hysminai, but we regretfully cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from either web sites or printed material. This article appears to be a copy from http://www.theoi.com/Daimon/Hysminai.html, and therefore a copyright violation. The copyrighted text has been or will soon be deleted. While we appreciate contributions, we must require all contributors to understand and comply with our copyright policy. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators are liable to be blocked from editing.

If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under allowance license, then you should do one of the following:

It may also be necessary for the text be modified to have an encyclopedic tone and to follow Wikipedia article layout. For more information on Wikipedia's policies, see Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.

If you would like to begin working on a new version of the article you may do so at this temporary page. Leave a note at Talk:Hysminai saying you have done so and an administrator will move the new article into place once the issue is resolved. Thank you, and please feel welcome to continue contributing to Wikipedia. Happy editing! VernoWhitney (talk) 14:21, 25 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

While the article is not a complete word-for-word copy of the source, it is still close enough in style and phrasing to constitute a close paraphrase which leads to a problem. While the text used from Evelyn White's translation of Theogony by Hesiod is in public domain, it still needs to be attributed if you want it to follow this closely. Also, the first sentence appears to be copied straight from Theoi Project website (unless it appears elsewhere in public domain in which case we need to attribute it correctly as well). This appears to be the case with your other greek mythology articles as well, so I would suggest putting a temporary hold on their creation until the situation is straightened out. Thanks for your time, VernoWhitney (talk) 14:21, 25 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. As an administrator working the copyright problems board, I have been alerted to this issue. Eleos seems unfortunately to have been a complete copy from [2], not in public domain material but in their lead. Since no permission was asserted for the article above and since copyright is clearly reserved at the source, it has been deleted under criterion G12 of the speedy deletion criteria, as a violation of our copyright policy with no creative content that could be preserved. I have provided a new stub on the above subject which can be rewritten and expanded with original content.
Dolos (mythology) seems to already have substantial original content, so rather than delete it, I have blanked it to give you time to rewrite the evidently copied content in original language. I have not yet checked the other articles you have created on Greek mythology. Articles that copy content from this or any other copyrighted source will need to be rewritten in accordance with our Terms of Use. While we can incorporate public domain material (though it must be attributed in accordance with our particular guidelines on plagiarism), we can only include brief, clearly marked excerpts of copyrighted text under the allowances of non-free content policy and guideline. Your assistance would be appreciated in identifying and addressing any other articles which may have problems under our copyright policy. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 22:30, 2 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

would appreciate your help![edit]

Hi ! I am new to wiki so i hope I'm typing this in the right spot! I'm reaching out to other users for help. As I understand it, I need to track down an established wiki editor to help me rid the first article i've created ("Stone and Stone")of the ugly box that was posted on top "This article has multiple issues....".

I know exactly how these complaints came about. In my ignorance on how wiki works, I gave myself the same nickname as the subject I was writing on and then a whole drama ensued, as it was assumed that I was my subject and that I was writing an autobiography! In truth, I am a huge comedy fan and biographer and was dipping my toes for the first time in wikipedia waters!

Any help or solutions you could provide me when you get the chance would be greatly appreciated! This poor little article certainly doesn't deserve such an ugly heading box because of my wiki-ignorance! Thank you in advance for your time! Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
