この画像に示されるシンボルは、ハーグ陸戦条約（1899年および1907年）やジュネーヴ条約（1949年）、それらに付随する1977年および2005年の議定書などの国際条約に加え、さらにその他の国際人道法における同意文書や長年の慣例などに基づき、その使用が制限されています。このシンボルの誤用は、前述の条約に加え、条約を批准した各国の内国法によって禁じられています。
