Angst is an emotion. It is an emotion of fear or anxiety (anguish is its Latinate equivalent. Anxious and anxiety have similar beginnings). The dictionary definition for angst is a feeling of anxiety, apprehension, or insecurity.[1] It is used in English to describe a strong feeling of apprehension, anxiety, or inner turmoil.

Angst and anxiety have frequently been conflated, yet they originate from distinct sources. Although they share similarities in their manifestations, angst typically pertains to a profound philosophical sense of dissatisfaction, while anxiety relates more broadly to the apprehension of potential suffering.[2]
