Delft University of Technology - Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Delft University of Technology (Dutch: Technische Universiteit Delft), shortened to TU Delft, is a technical public university in Delft, a city in the province of South Holland, the Netherlands. It is the oldest and largest technical university in the Netherlands. It was established as a Royal Academy in 1842 to facilitate the education of civil engineers. It is the school that rapidly expanded its education curriculum and became a polytechnic school in 1864.^[1]

Later in 1905, it became an institute of technology, gaining full university rights. And, it got its current name in the year 1986. Further, in 2019, the university was ranked amongst the top 20 best universities for engineering and technology internationally and received the highest rank in the Netherlands.^[2]

With an area of around 161 hectares, the campus of the university is larger than Delft's city center and is considered one amongst the largest university campuses worldwide. It has about 21,000 students.
