Julianne "Julie" Smith is an American foreign policy advisor and politician. She is the United States Ambassador to NATO since December 6, 2021.
Smith has written op-ed columns for The New York Times, Lawfare, Washington Monthly, Foreign Affairs, and The National Interest.[1]
From 2009 to 2012, she was the director of European and NATO policy at the United States Department of Defense. From April 2012 to June 2013, she served as deputy national security advisor to then-Vice President Joe Biden.[2]
In June 2021, President Biden nominated Smith to serve as the United States Ambassador to NATO. Her nomination was confirmed by the United States Senate on November 18, 2021.[3]
