主唱克里斯·馬汀表示，專輯是他觀看科幻電影《星際大戰》中虛構的摩斯艾斯利酒吧（英语：Mos Eisley cantina）樂團的表演後，好奇「宇宙中的音樂家」和外太空的聲音會是什麼樣子而創作的[14][15]。
