[edit]

There is currently a discussion at Talk:Sabaton (band) currently ongoing regarding a statement from the musical style section, and could use some opinions from members of this WikiProject to see if a consensus can be reached. removing a redirect

[edit]

I want to start a page for a musical artist under that artist's name, but it currently redirects to a band's page that happens to have that musicians name as part of the band they were in. Now, that artist has enough to warrant their own page under that artist's own name as a solo artist. How do you manage this? Ravin9976 (talk) 20:22, 19 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Issue with citation at The Magic Band

[edit]

There's a quote from John "Drumbo" French in The Magic Band article about how difficult it was to work with Captain Beefheart/Van Vliet. The issue is that the reference, as stated, fails verification. At the very least there are no page numbers that high (815-816) in the Mike Barnes book Captain Beefheart. The quote has been promulgated throughout the internet and I suppose it must exist so I am hoping someone in this WikiProject has access to the book and can find the quote on whatever page it might be on. I have tried my best to at least find some aspect of the quote in the Barnes book online but have come up empty.
Here are all the particulars:

  • Captain Beefheart by Mike Barnes, published by Omnibus Press in 2011. 410 pages.

Quote:

"If Van Vliet built a house like he wrote music, the methodology would go something like this ... The house is sketched on the back of a Denny's placemat in such an odd fashion that when he presents it to the contractor without plans or research, the contractor says "This structure is going to be hard to build, it's going to be tough to make it safe and stable because it is so unique in design." Van Vliet then yells at the contractor and intimidates him into doing the job anyway. The contractor builds the home, figuring out all the intricacies involved in structural integrity himself because whenever he approaches Van Vliet, he finds that he seems completely unable to comprehend technical problems and just yells, "Quit asking me about this stuff and build the damned house."...When the house is finished no one gets paid, and Van Vliet has a housewarming party, invites none of the builders and tells the guests he built the whole thing himself."

I did find a 2020 blog post that had the quote in full - from A&M Records-Alan & Margaret Ashworth "Well Done Beefheart" - but the only source they gave was "John ‘Drumbo’ French, who told an interviewer". Thanks in advance for any help. = Shearonink (talk) 01:50, 24 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

New WikiProject

[edit]

Hello!

I propose a WikiProject with the working title of Art & Architecture Copyedits.

The proposed WikiProject has two main goals:

  1. To copyedit any articles related to Art & Architecture that have the copyedit or clarify tag, and
  2. To create a supportive, welcoming space for newcomers. Experienced editors are also very appreciated, especially for the proposal process, but the WikiProject, once created, will mainly be recruiting newcomers.

If you would like to join, please do comment below, and I'll ping you during the proposal to confirm your intent. I will be posting this message on all related WikiProjects. All experience levels appreciated! 22ManzanaBoy (talk) 15:51, 15 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Liquid

[edit]

Hey folks. There's currently an article called Liquid (musician). But, Liquid was not a musician, it was two DJs. That is, Liquid was -- a dance music act, or hardcore music act? I'm not sure of the best way to very briefly describe and therefore name it, as I'm not really familiar with this musical form. But I do think the article should be renamed, since Liquid was one person, not two. Can interested editors assist with this? Perhaps the article should be called "Liquid (music group)". Influences in lead sections

[edit]

Hi. I have a quick question for this project: is it relevant to include a musician's influence in the lead section? Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 19:26, 29 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Are we talking about acts/genres that influenced the musician or the other way around? In case of the former, this would normally be on a "Musical style" or "Early life" (i.e. their musical upbringing) section, but if there's none available, it could be fine in a lead section. If it's about how the musician influenced other musicians and genres, then it could definitely be mentioned in the lead, which would even help quickly establishing their notability. Request to add a page on Tyler Morris, Blues Guitarist

[edit]

Hi, I would like to request a page be added for a notable musician. I have a draft for unbiased neutral review with sources.

Tyler Morris (musician) – Draft Wikipedia Article

Tyler Morris (born November 4, 1998) is an American blues‑rock guitarist, singer, songwriter, and record producer. He has earned three Grammy Award nominations and is a voting member of both the Recording Academy (NARAS) and the Country Music Association (CMA).

Early life and education

Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Morris began playing guitar at age nine and was performing professionally by age eleven. He later studied guitar performance and music production at Berklee College of Music.

Career

Debut and early albums

Morris released his debut album, And So It Begins (2015), at age 16. He followed that with Next in Line (2018), a critically praised record featuring guest performances by Joe Louis Walker and the Uptown Horns, and produced by Grammy-winning Paul Nelson.

Living in the Shadows and wider recognition

His 2020 album, Living in the Shadows, produced by Mike Zito, was praised for its fiery guitar work and confident vocals. It featured collaborations with Ronnie Earl, Joe Louis Walker, and Amanda Fish, and reached #3 on the Billboard Blues Albums chart. Reviews highlighted his maturity and depth as a songwriter and guitarist.

Grammy nominations and industry affiliations

Tyler Morris is a three-time Grammy nominee, with nominations spanning blues and instrumental categories (as discussed during his feature on the Musicians And Beyond podcast, Episode 82, December 18 2023). He is also a recognized voting member of the Recording Academy (NARAS) and the Country Music Association (CMA).

Musical style and influences

Morris’s playing blends blues-rock intensity, shred techniques, and melodic phrasing. His influences include Eric Johnson, Eddie Van Halen, B.B. King, Steve Vai, and Walter Trout. Blues Blast Magazine noted his technical fluency and deep knowledge of blues tradition for his age.

Many of us in the WikiProject don't really consider article requests via this Talk page. You might have better luck writing this draft in draftspace and submitting through articles for creation. There's also Wikipedia:Requested articles/Music/Performers, bands and songwriters, but I advise writing a short description and providing your references if you choose to take that route. Proposed merger of inactive sub-projects

[edit]

There are several dozen WikiProjects on individual musicians which are pretty much dead. To encourage closer collaboration instead of disparate editing, I propose merging the following sub-projects, all of which can be called inactive or barely active, into WikiProject Musicians (I've excluded a few like the Beatles or Michael Jackson because of the higher probability they might be revived):

Please let me know if you oppose any of these inactive sub-projects being merged into this one. I will leave messages on all of their talk pages too maybe tomorrow, it's quite a list!. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 22:42, 31 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I have no objections whatsoever to merging all of these inactive subprojects into this WikiProject. We can certainly do that. Also, I will be adding WikiProject Van Halen to the listing as well since that is inactive as well. HorrorLover555 (talk) 23:34, 31 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Strong support. There is absolutely no reason to have all these dead wikiprojects lying around. FaviFake (talk) 09:53, 1 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]
